ANNA SCOBIE
Anna Scobie.
Anna Scobie is a Newcastle-based artist who works primarily with Australian timbers to create distinctive sculptural forms. Her practice is deeply inspired by the natural world, drawing on the flowing lines of leaves, seed pods, and the coastal culture of Newcastle.

Anna began woodturning at the age of three, learning from her late father, renowned woodworker Neil Scobie. Through an informal apprenticeship with him, she developed her skills in carving, sculpture, and creative woodworking — a foundation that continues to inform her art today.

Anna has exhibited for over a decade across the Hunter region and Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the University of Newcastle, a Graduate Diploma of Education, and a Master of Art Administration from UNSW’s College of Fine Arts (COFA).

For more than 15 years, Anna has also worked in public art museums and cultural institutions, specialising in creative engagement, education, and community programs. Her passion lies in connecting people to creativity, nature, and each other through art.

Alongside her studio practice, Anna co-founded Urban Hum, an ethical micro-beekeeping enterprise focused on sustainable beekeeping and environmental education. After Urban Hum closed in 2022 due to the devastating arrival of the Varroa mite in Australia, Anna shifted her focus to broader climate action. She is now part of The Groundswell Collective team, delivering creative, hopeful climate action workshops, planting tiny forests, and leading community-based environmental projects across NSW.
